1. Scientific Calculator Capabilities
The Scientific Mode in TechTube's Calculator (/tools/calculator) provides advanced functions required for engineering, physics modeling, computer graphics, and machine learning mathematics.
sin, cos, tan, inverse arc-functions (asin, acos, atan), and hyperbolic variants.
Natural log (ln), common log (log₁₀), arbitrary exponents (xʸ), square roots, and cube roots.
One-click insertion of Pi (π ≈ 3.14159265) and Euler's number (e ≈ 2.71828182).
2. Angle Modes: Degrees (DEG) vs. Radians (RAD)
The calculator includes a toggle between DEG (Degrees) and RAD (Radians):
Degrees (DEG Mode)
A full circle equals 360°. Standard for geometry, navigation, mechanical engineering, and architecture.
Example: sin(90°) = 1, cos(0°) = 1
Radians (RAD Mode)
A full circle equals 2π radians. Standard for calculus, signal processing, Fourier transforms, and physics.
Example: sin(π/2) = 1, cos(π) = -1
3. Trigonometric & Hyperbolic Functions
| Button | Function | Description & Formula |
|---|---|---|
| sin, cos, tan | Primary Trigonometric | Sine, Cosine, and Tangent of the specified angle. |
| sin⁻¹, cos⁻¹, tan⁻¹ | Inverse (Arc) Functions | Returns the angle whose trigonometric ratio equals x. |
| sinh, cosh, tanh | Hyperbolic Functions | Hyperbolic curves based on exponential functions (e^x ± e^-x)/2. |
4. Logarithms (ln, log₁₀), Powers & Roots
Logarithm to base e. Essential for continuous growth, radioactive decay, and thermodynamics.
Logarithm to base 10. Used in decibel audio scales, earthquake Richter scales, and pH chemistry.
Calculate arbitrary exponentiation. Type the base, press xʸ, enter the exponent, and press =.
Square root, cube root, or arbitrary nth root evaluation with high precision.
5. Mathematical Constants (π, e) & Scientific Notation
Clicking the π or e buttons inserts full floating-point representations:
- Pi (π):
3.141592653589793 - Euler's Constant (e):
2.718281828459045
Numbers exceeding display width (e.g. 1,250,000,000) format automatically as scientific notation: 1.25e+9.
6. Parentheses & Operator Precedence (PEMDAS)
The calculation parser adheres strictly to mathematical operator precedence:
PEMDAS / BODMAS Execution Hierarchy:
1. Parentheses ( ... )
2. Exponents & Roots xʸ, √x
3. Multiplication & Division ×, ÷
4. Addition & Subtraction +, −
7. Step-by-Step Practical Engineering Formulas
Formula: c = √(a² + b²)
Enter: √(3² + 4²) = 5
Formula: A = P × (1 + r/n)^(n×t)
Enter: 1000 × (1 + 0.05 / 12)^(12 × 5) = $1,283.36
8. Frequently Asked Questions
Why did sin(90) give a negative decimal instead of 1?
This happens when the calculator is set to RAD (Radians) mode instead of DEG (Degrees). Click the DEG toggle pill and re-evaluate.
