Client-Side Privacy Guarantee

100% Private & Client-Side: All URL processing and parameter parsing is performed strictly within your browser. No web addresses or parameters are logged or sent to any server.

What is this?

A comprehensive web utility for encoding text and URLs into percent-encoded format (RFC 3986) and decoding encoded query parameters back to human-readable strings. Features a built-in visual Query Parameter Inspector that breaks down complex URLs into an editable Key-Value parameter table.

Key Features & Concepts

  • Percent-Encoding & Decoding: Convert spaces, symbols, and non-ASCII characters into %XX format
  • Dual Standards Support: Choose between encodeURIComponent (all non-alphanumeric) and encodeURI (preserves full URL structure)
  • RFC 3986 Space Handling: Toggle between standard %20 encoding and form-style + encoding for spaces
  • Visual Query Parameter Inspector: Parses full URLs into an interactive Key-Value table for quick debugging
  • Live Key-Value Editor: Edit, add, or remove query parameters and rebuild the encoded URL in real time
  • One-Click Copy & Clear: Instantly copy encoded/decoded output or reset the editor
  • Error Handling: Gracefully reports malformed URI percent-sequences with exact position markers
  • 100% Client-Side Execution: All URL parsing and encoding runs locally inside your browser

How to Use

  1. Select "Encode" or "Decode" mode from the mode switcher.
  2. Paste a full URL or raw string into the input field.
  3. Choose your encoding mode: encodeURIComponent (for query values) or encodeURI (for full web addresses).
  4. Use the Query Parameter Inspector tab to view and edit URL key-value pairs in a tabular interface.
  5. Click "Copy Result" to copy the processed string to your clipboard.

Common Use Cases

  • Frontend Engineers constructing dynamic URL query strings for API requests
  • Marketing & SEO Specialists analyzing and building campaign URLs with UTM parameters
  • Web Developers debugging OAuth redirects, deep links, and webhook endpoint URLs

Practical Examples

  • Encoding spaces and special characters in query values: "TechTube Tools & Utility" -> "TechTube%20Tools%20%26%20Utility"
  • Decoding complex OAuth callback URLs containing encoded redirect URIs and state strings
  • Inspecting tracking parameters (utm_source, utm_medium) in marketing links

Limitations & Technical Notes

  • URLs must adhere to standard URI character specifications (RFC 3986).
  • Decoding malformed percent sequences like "%2" or "%ZZ" will trigger a URIError message.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do URLs need to be encoded?

URLs can only contain printable ASCII characters from a specific allowed set. Reserved characters like "?", "&", "=", "#", and spaces have special structural meanings in URLs and must be percent-encoded when used inside parameter values.

What is the difference between encodeURI and encodeURIComponent?

encodeURI preserves special URL characters like ":", "/", "?", and "#" so that full web addresses remain intact. encodeURIComponent encodes ALL non-alphanumeric characters, making it ideal for individual query parameter values.

Why are spaces encoded as %20 or +?

Standard percent-encoding uses %20 for spaces according to RFC 3986. HTML form submissions (application/x-www-form-urlencoded) historically used the "+" sign for spaces.
